My First Steps as a Black Model in Munich
Introduction to Modeling in Munich
My initial experiences as a black model in Munich were overwhelmingly positive. Working with Nir Avner allowed me to understand one crucial element: my natural comfort in front of a camera. Though I had always considered myself photogenic in everyday life, it was my collaboration with a professional photographer that truly made me realize this potential.
Overcoming Initial Nerves
At the start, I felt slightly uneasy and uncertain about how to pose, but Nir Avner provided the reassurance and direction I needed. His guidance on what he wanted to capture helped me navigate the shoot with increasing confidence. This marked the beginning of my journey as a black model in Munich.
A Transformative Second Shoot
A few years later, during my second shoot, my life had evolved both professionally and personally. I had acquired the maturity and stability necessary to seriously pursue modeling. For anyone aspiring to become a model, it is vital to embrace yourself authentically, celebrate your differences, and confront societal prejudices—even if you don’t fit traditional standards. Achieving success demands courage and initiative.
The Support of Lourdes Pacton Hofmann
Lourdes Pacton Hofmann, a talented make-up artist and designer, gave me the push I needed. After discovering me, she invited me to participate in one of her shoots just months after we met. Lourdes sought a black model in Munich for a long-term project. Despite my initial hesitations, I accepted to represent both the Black community and help bring her creative vision to life.
A Unique Studio Experience
My first appearance at the studio with purple flexirods sparked fascination in the photographer, Bilder aus Strom. He was captivated and asked to photograph me with them, even though they were meant to be removed. Amused by his curiosity, I agreed. Flexirods, crucial for heatless curling, were new to him, and his interest affirmed that I was in the right place. This connection set the tone for what would become the second of many shoots.
Recognition and Growth
This particular shoot led to a photo featuring the flexirods that earned a gold award at the European Photography Awards. Working with Lourdes Pacton Hofmann and Bilder aus Strom provided a crucial test of my potential. Their admiration for my work resulted in further opportunities, including a request for me to model two of Lourdes’ dresses during a subsequent shoot. As a 1.52-meter-tall model, I was deeply honored to represent designs embodying elegance and femininity.
Embracing Authenticity and Confidence
Starting out, I had no experience with professional posing or camera presence. However, self-confidence and a clear vision made all the difference. For any aspiring black model in Munich or elsewhere, being genuine, natural, and fearless is the key to success.
